Gaitro and Cursor background agents
Cursor's background agents work on your repository on a remote machine, on a branch of their own, while you do something else, and hand the result back for review. Gaitro isn't an agent: it's where agents' work comes together. Cursor's agent can work in Gaitro too.
- What it is
Gaitro
A code repository for agents' work: drafts, claims, checks and a record of who decided what
Cursor background agents
Cursor's agent, running on a remote machine instead of yours
- Which agents
Gaitro
Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or anything with a command line, side by side
Cursor background agents
Cursor's agent
- Several agents at once
Gaitro
As they edit: what each agent changes is reserved for it as it saves, function by function, so a second agent that touches it hears at once and waits its turn, or asks to go first
Cursor background agents
Each works on its own branch; overlaps show up when the branches are merged
- Reviewing a change
Gaitro
A summary in plain words, what changed, and checks written as sentences
Cursor background agents
A branch or pull request to review
- Tests
Gaitro
Checks are sentences; the agent writes each one's test; every run gets a fresh sandbox
Cursor background agents
What the agent runs on its machine, and your own CI
- Going live
Gaitro
Nothing ships until a person presses Ship it; any earlier version comes back in one click

When Cursor background agents is the better fit
When you want an agent to keep working while your own machine does something else, from the editor you already use.
When Gaitro is
When several agents, of more than one kind, work on one project; when you want overlaps found while they edit; and when a person who may not read code decides what ships.
Using both
Cursor connects to Gaitro through the gaitro MCP server, so its agent can open drafts, save checkpoints, and ship when you say so.
